A lot of research has happened in the last few years on teaching methodologies and instructional best practices. The most important one which has inspired us is ZPD and is described below

Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD):
Our one to one tutoring concept is an extension of the Zone of Proximal Development(ZPD) theory developed by the Soviet psychologist Lev Vygotsky (1896 – 1934). ZPD is basically the difference between the learner’s performance, with the help, and in absence of help, of an external guide. The concept of ZPD mandates that a healthy one-on-one learning relationship with a more knowledgeable person is a must in order for students to reach their maximum potential. Hence we believe that the students learn fastest when they get the undivided attention of the teacher. This basically is the idea behind one to one tutoring provided by Spirited Gurus.

Our teaching methodology also adopts the following styles for tutoring:-

  • Questioning or Quizzing
          Questioning is a method of teaching where in the teacher will ask questions in a manner which will               invoke thinking in the student,make a topic interesting as well as help the student in developing a                 habit of preparedness for the upcoming sessions.

  • Explaining/ Lecturing
          This is teaching given by speech and by demonstration on a board or a notepad.This is a necessary             step before teaching a new topic to the student. This will necessarily be associated with examples,               tips and tricks so that student is able to grasp and recall easily the topic

  • Demonstrating
          In specific cases our tutors will also be giving demonstrations for certain topics. This will again be                 with a purpose of associating theory with real life examples in order to simplify the learning process.             At times teacher will also act like a student and work with him to prepare a certain topic.

  • Collaborating
          In this teaching mode, students work in groups, discuss, prepare come to a conclusion and present             it to the teacher. This helps students talk to each other, listen, think in a unbiased way. This option               will be available in Group Tuitions only when the size of Batch will be of four students. 

  • Learning by teaching
          This method was developed by Jean-Pol Martin a German foreign language professor. In this method             the tutor and the student will swap roles and a certain set of topics which have been found                           challenging by the student will be taught to the teacher by the student.This will help student come               over the difficulties in learning, give him confidence as well enable him to overcome his weak points.

Student Potential Analysis:-
We analyze the previous year’s marks of the student as well his IQ through a test. Based on that we decide the number of sessions that he will need to for a particular subject. These will be distributed with a particular frequency over a period of time.
